Do You Need an Agent to Buy from 1688?

You do not need to decide whether to hire an agent before you know which parts of the order you need help with. First establish who can place and pay for the order, receive the goods, check them and arrange delivery to your destination. Choose a service that fills the gaps.

Check what you can do yourself

Open the actual listing and write down the product, variations, quantity and destination. Can you understand the specification and confirm it with the seller? Can your account use an available payment method? Is there an agreed receiving address, and who handles the next leg of transport?

A warehouse may receive and forward parcels without checking the contents. A purchasing helper may order an item but leave international shipping to you. Ask for the scope in writing rather than assuming the word “agent” includes everything.

Small orders need a complete quote

Request goods, domestic delivery, service charges, inspection, storage, packing and onward shipping as separate lines, with anything bundled clearly marked. Check the payment currency, exchange rate, minimum fee and excluded destination costs. Use the same product and service requirements for every quote.

Common questions

Can I use forwarding only?

Ask the provider whether it accepts customer-purchased goods and your specific products. Get its receiving instructions and identify what checking is included.

Does an agent guarantee product quality?

A service description is not proof that your requirements will be met. Agree written inspection criteria and use the sample and inspection checklist to record evidence.

Is the lowest service fee the cheapest option?

Only a comparison of the same scope and all quoted costs can answer that. Minimum charges, packing, conversion and shipping can change the result.
