Compare supplier quotations

Keep the same product specification and quantity across quotations. Record up to three suppliers, then review the gaps before deciding.

Your entries stay in this page and are not sent or saved on the website. This worksheet does not verify suppliers, convert currencies or choose a winner.

Compare a 1688 supplier against the order you need it to fulfil. Start with the trading party, product specification, sample evidence, lead time and written terms. Treat a claim such as “direct factory” as something to investigate, not as proof of the lowest cost or the right product.

Confirm the trading party

Record the business information disclosed by the shop and ask which entity will accept the order and receive payment. Clarify whether the seller manufactures the goods, purchases them from another producer or uses a combination of both. If those details differ across documents, ask for an explanation before proceeding.

A business name, badge, sales total or polished profile is not enough to establish manufacturing capability. A store offering one narrow category may still source elsewhere; a broad catalogue alone cannot establish that no manufacturing occurs.

Ask which work is done in-house

For your specific product, ask where the important processes take place and who handles any outsourced steps. Discuss materials, tolerances, finishing, packaging and common defects. Request evidence relevant to those claims rather than a general factory photograph.

For example, if a seller says it can customize a bottle, ask whether it makes the body, applies the finish, prints the logo or coordinates those services through other businesses. The answer helps you decide what must be checked; it is not automatically a reason to accept or reject the supplier.

Separate claims from checks

Evidence stage What it can contribute What remains unresolved
Seller statement A claim and contact to follow up Whether the claim is accurate
Documents supplied Names, specifications and stated scope Authenticity, applicability and independent verification
Photos or live demonstration Visible equipment, process or product detail Ownership, representativeness and future performance
Sample checked Evidence about the particular sample examined Consistency of later production
Agreed inspection completed Results for its recorded scope and goods Anything outside that inspection scope

Mark unanswered questions as unknown. Do not turn a supplier’s document into an independently verified certificate or a photograph into a completed inspection.

Do identical photos mean identical goods?

They do not establish it. Compare the written material, dimensions, components, finish, packaging and quantity break. Request current product evidence and a sample matching the version you intend to order. Save the specification alongside the quote so you can identify what each supplier priced.

If one offer includes measurements, individual packaging or a different defect-handling arrangement, record those differences. A price comparison is incomplete until the product and service scope match.

Compare samples and order terms

Send candidates the same quotation brief. Ask about minimum quantities, sample costs, production timing, inclusions and exclusions. Use the inspection checklist to record the sample’s actual result, including failures or measurements still needed.

Before a larger order, record the approved specification, acceptance criteria and how discrepancies will be handled. A successful sample does not replace checking the production batch. Keep the version or sample reference clear when you approve production.

Choose for your order, then record performance

Use the supplier comparison tool on this page to record specification fit, minimum quantity, sample result, lead time, total quote and defect handling. Consider whether the seller’s communication and evidence support the particular work you need. Manufacturing status is one factor, not the whole decision.

For a new relationship, choose a trial scope you can evaluate and record what actually happens. Keep a record of missed requirements as well as successful delivery. Use the supplier follow-up guide before placing another order.

Preguntas frecuentes

Is a trading company always a worse choice?

No such conclusion follows from its label. Compare the offered product, service, evidence and terms with your needs.

Does a directory listing prove trustworthiness?

No. The r/1688 supplier directory itself distinguishes discussion from endorsement. Perform checks on the actual business and order.

Check what a badge, video or certificate actually supports

A store badge or factory video is one piece of evidence, not a guarantee about your order. Record the business named, site address, report date, issuing organisation and activities covered. Ask how those activities relate to your product and which work is subcontracted. A mismatch needs an explanation; a short video or a different trading name alone does not establish fraud.

Evidence Check before relying on it Still to confirm
Factory report Subject, address, date, issuer and production processes covered Who will produce and take responsibility for this order?
Certificate Standard, number, holder, status and product scope What connects the certificate to the exact goods being purchased?
Sample Identified version, measurements and observed results How will the production batch be checked against the approved reference?

Verify certificate claims at the source

For an OEKO-TEX claim, use the official Label Check with the supplied number. If no result appears, follow the organisation’s contact guidance rather than immediately declaring the certificate fake.

For Textile Exchange standards, its scope-certificate explanation distinguishes a company’s certified scope from evidence for the products you order. Check validity and listed products, and ask about the applicable transaction certificate. Use the official company directory and contact the issuing certification body about unresolved details. Do not turn a general supplier certificate into an unsupported claim about every product in its catalogue.

Research note, 22 September 2026: community advice about factory reports y certificate claims identify the questions. Official certification sources above support the verification steps; no particular supplier has been certified or endorsed by this guide.
